Focus of Professional Development

1. Implementation of Professional Development which supports the Michigan Curriculum Framework Standards in Mathematics and Science and the Teaching and Learning Standards
2. Models of Delivery for Professional Development which will meet teachers¹ and schools¹ needs.
3. Evaluation and Assessment of Professional Development offer by the Center.

The ultimate goal is the mathematically and scientifically literate person, and teachers are responsible for starting all students along that path. For teachers charged with setting students on this learning pathway, professional development must also be a continuous lifelong process. The teacher we're talking about has integrated knowledge of science, mathematics and technology; has a deep conceptual understanding of how learning can be optimized for students with different learning styles; and appreciates that both the learning and the practice of teaching mathematics and science are dynamic and constructed.

"The development of pedagogical content knowledge by teachers mirrors what we know about learning by students; it can be fully developed only through continuous experience." (NSES)
